This booklet was derived from a botanical survey taken on May 28, 2017. It is a guide to help committee members learn what invasive plants were on the site and how to handle them. It also instructs on what native species might be a good alternative planting once the invasives are removed.

Civil & Environmental students at UVM studied and designed a pedestrian bridge for the Riverwalk as their final class project. This detailed 165 page book is a civil and environmental engineering guide to building the lower pedestrian bridge.
“Without it we would be less.
And with it we will be more.
A shining beacon in the middle of it all.
Born before any of us
It will always symbolize
The contrast between progress
And the beauty and the power
Of nature.”
William West
Lifelong Manchester resident Bill West, who lived on the West Branch as a child, wrote this stirring poem as a paean to both the river and to the Riverwalk Committee that is bringing the river back to life for the people. Download and enjoy the whole poem.
